Austin Johnson, raised in Amarillo, Texas, is one of the best basketball players to come out of the Texas Panhandle.
In high school, he was a two-time Texas Association of Basketball Coaches First-Team All-State selection, three-time District 3-4A Player of the Year, Named the Amarillo Area MVP, Netted a career-high 44 points twice.
Recorded a quadruple-double Jan.10, 2003, as a sophomore (24 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals), where he was recognized in Sports Illustrated for his accomplishment.
Austin finished his high school career as the leading scorer in Amarillo city history (2,602 points) Still holds this title to this day in 2018. He still holds the number 12 spot at The University of Oklahoma for assists, the 13th spot for steals and is ranked in the number 20th spot for blocks.
Austin played 5 years overseas professionally. He was in Lebanon for the 2011-2012 season, playing with Al Moutahed Tripoli (Division A) with whom he averaged 21.3ppg, 3.9rpg, 5.8apg over 26 games.
In the 2013 season, he won a championship for his team in Jordan. “Traveling the world playing basketball is indescribable. I have played in Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Germany, Switzerland and experienced so many different cultures, religions and backgrounds. I would say my family and I are truly blessed to experience what we have throughout my career.”
After playing professionally oveseas, Austin returned back to Amarillo and begin building his business, Austin Johnson's Academy of Hoops. He travels all around the country training athletes and coaching club ball.
“I really enjoy mentoring these young athletes on and off the court- I respect them just as much as they respect me. Without these kids, I wouldn’t have this successful business I have now and I thank each and every one of them, and their parents for instilling the trust they have in me to push their athlete to the next level.”
He personally trains every athlete that comes to his academy. Whether it is one-on-one training or in a small group setting, everyone is getting to interact with Austin on a personal level. He specializes in many different aspects of the game that players will not receive elsewhere. Austin has various club-ball teams that he travels with and coaches during the year.
When Austin isn’t on the basketball court, he spends his extra time with his two daughters and fiancé. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and even noodling! Yes, you heard right, catching fish with his bare hands!
